I wanted to end and begin the year with two men that have worked tirelessly for marriage equality in California. During the brief window last year when gay couples were allowed to get married, my two friends James and Stephen went to city hall in San Francisco with hundreds of other couples and were legally married. Since then, they have worked hard to make sure ALL gay couples have the same rights and get the opportunity to experience the joy they felt on this day.
2011 is a big year for Gay rights in this country - DADT is defeated and new policy will be implemented allowing gay and lesbian soldiers to serve. And the courts will decide on the constitutionality of Prop 8 here in California. Even in the midst of defeats, the progress towards eqality is steadily moving forward - thanks to people like James and Stephen, and the thousands of gay and lesbians who have worked so hard.
Here's to equality in 2011!
